There are a large number of people who start their business but do not realize how much time and effort is involved in the work. They do not carry out primary research and thus quickly get overwhelmed.

Few questions that one should ask oneself are, whether he is ready to start his/her own business? Do you have the mindset of an entrepreneur and if you are committed to spend the essential time to get success in it?

While starting a business, be aware that you have to do multi-tasks. You will be the CEO, general manager, marketing executive, accountant, secretary as well as the receptionist. Prepare yourself for the days when you will be really disappointed, depressed, exhausted or sometimes frustrated. Realize the fact that success is not achieved overnight and it will take more than one or two years to achieve the desired results.

Lets discuss some of the common mistakes that new entrepreneurs make and how we can avoid them.
  • They do not spend enough time in researching if the business idea is really viable. Most entrepreneurs are not interested in what business they are opening; they are more focused towards earning money. You should spend all the time in working on your plans, making business strategy, mission statement, researching on target market, analyzing the industry, your marketing plans, financial projections as well as the sales.
  • We often fail to determine whether the business we are choosing actually adds value. Therefore, make sure that the products and services you are providing are beneficial for clients. Always welcome the problems of clients and offer them effective solutions.
  • Success depends on your attention to detail. If you do not have a total understanding of what your business is all about, it is a total loss. You should understand the aspects of business and know how to present them in a simple and easy way.
  • Most entrepreneurs ask their relatives or friends to give them advice for starting a new business. You might not get the right direction by taking such steps. Talk to those people that have expertise and skills that you do not have. Get a mentor and ask for his guidance.
  • We often start a business without determining the target or demography and thus, fail to attract clients. Marketing should be our top priority. Make a good marketing plan and find out how you can promote your products in the best way to clients. Do adequate publicity of your company by making business cards and other materials that establish a professional rapport.
  • New entrepreneurs are so desperate to find new clients that they ignore the existing ones. Develop and maintain follow-up systems in order to provide new services to your clients and do not give them any chance to slip away.
