Visit the word press website and create a free account.
Log into your account once you have you have created an account. The first thing that you'll notice after logging into is the dashboard.
Try a test post initially to check the functionality and features of the blog forum.
Before, you go add a post, try a few other things like adding tags for post.
Click on the New Post button or Add New under the Posts category to add a post.
The next time you log into your site, you'll notice your blog has a title along with tag line. You would also notice your post has a  bland design. You also have the option to change the template while posting your blog.
Click on the appearance and then click on the themes option. You will be provided with the preview on how your blog will view. To activate a theme just click at the top right corner of that preview.

You can access and adjust your widgets through the Appearance button. They are basically, things that fill up the sidebars on your blog. To view widgets go to template option. In case, you have more than one sidebars for widget,  you will have to choose one between them. To do this, click the drop down box under Current Widgets. This option will help you view widgets that are currently in the sidebar.
