We all must have experienced this at some point. You are driving around the town and your car is running fine. The moment you jump on a highway and speed up, the steering wheels gets vibration and starts shaking a bit. What is the reason?

Car is an amazing vehicle. It you will talk to a car enthusiast, he will spend hours telling about the intricate technology and gadgets used in the vehicle. All the technological advancement can not hide one thing – the most important area of a car is where the tyre meets the road.

As per your vehicle and tyre, the total area of contact may be as little as 4 by 4 by 1 inch (counting 4 tyres). This small contact area supports the entire car weighing more than thousand pounds. If you want a smooth drive, then make sure that the car is correctly balancing on four contact areas. If this balance is improper, the ride will become rough.

A problem in front tyres will make the steering wheel vibrate. There are two reasons of this problem. One is that the tyre is out of balance, another is that the rim is bent. Let's understand this properly.

The tyre is made of rubber. A low air pressure or whacking a pot hole can disturb the balance of the tyre, and it will slightly wobble at higher speed. This will make you think that the wheel is shaking. Correct the balance of the tyre by visiting a local tyre store.

The bent rim is more common problem than most of the people would expect. How can rims bend? It is simple. When you hit a pot hole, it means you suddenly hit the upwards elevation change on a street. A fast hit can bend a rim.

There is no easy or quick way to fix a bent rim. The only option available is to buy a new one. A brand new rim will be costly. Try to get the rim re-finished, but this works in rare cases and actually weaken the rim.
