Before committing yourself to be interviewed, you must ensure that you are geared up with all the information you need. You must be prepared with a thorough rehearsal of all your answers. Set out your own ground rules:

Keep these things in mind:

Set Your Own Agenda

Before committing yourself to be interviewed, you must ensure that you are geared up with all the information you need. You must be prepared with a thorough rehearsal of all your answers. Set out your own ground rules:
  • If you want to get prepared at a higher level, then ask for a list of the questions that the reporter is going to ask you. If it is not possible then at least jot down a thorough note of the broad areas for discussion.
  • Make yourself comfortable and try to arrange a time and place to suit yourself. You must be ensure of the fact  that you take time to get all the necessary information before you commit yourself for the interview.
Type of Interview
  • Keep all the information with you as to what kind of interview it would be. Will it be a live one or recorded? The fact is that Live interviews are usually very hazardous, at the same time, it is a fact that they cannot be edited -- and possibly distorted. So chances of ruining the interview are high.
  • Will the interview be broadcast in a contentious way or will it be intercepted with regular breaks in between?
Getting Your Point Across

When preparing to undertake an interview, you must jot down some points that you wish to make. Try to get your message across, whatever may be the question is! When the reporter is planning to edit some portions from your interview or take snippets from that, then you must ensure that there are a number of short, clear statements he can use. These are known as "sound bites".

You must ensure that you commence your answer with a positive note. Never repeat his question while giving answers to them. The main thing to note down is that you must never lie or fudge. If you don't know the answer, then commit it.

Losers and Winners

An interview can become a very good experience for you where you are asked for information. Similarly it can become an emotional battle where a kind of bad relationship occurs between you and reporter and you both mistrust each other. Whatever is the case, take it in a positive manner.
